Edge of My Comfort Zone

If growth happens at the edge of our comfort zone, I have certainly been leaning on my edge in the past few months. Sharing with you my Q2 update and I'd also love to hear from you!

It took courage for me to take a unique perspective on a traditional topic and to share my vulnerable personal stories when I published a book "Leadership Unlocked: Unleash the Power of Your Body for Impact and Fulfillment" in March.

When anti-Asian violence intensified this past Spring, it took all the strengths I could muster to speak up as an Asian American voice on Ohio's largest newspaper The Plain Dealer in March and on NPR 90.3 WCPN ideastream in April. It is ironic that I did not feel my most basic human need - personal safety - was met while I was talking about achieving ultimate fulfillment on Authority Magazine's feature as a successful immigrant. Maybe it is the yin and yang of life?

Taking a stance, I was proud to represent the International Coaching Federation in promoting the power of professional coaching on a TV segment with ABC Channel 5 WEWS with an amazing client organization Everstream in May.

As I make an intentional effort to lean on the edge of my comfort zone, I have been contemplating "What is my voice?" and "What in life wants to live through me right now?"

Following that energy, I took a group class on writing personal essays with a fabulous teacher Scott Lax through Literary Cleveland. Though poetry was not taught in the class, this short piece came through me a few nights ago. Leaning on the edge, I am taking the courage to share with you - my very first poem.

SUMMER DREAM

A dream
is a gorgeous sunset scene.
On a cream rock, I lean,
to hear Lake Erie breathe.

A shower of heavenly glow,
diamonds dancing on the go.
A splash of a jet ski,
seagulls on a shopping spree.

Soaking in my orange blood,
I let the warm lights flood.
So keen,
summer brews like a dream.

Longing to be seen,
June declares to be queen.

I don't know where all this is taking me. What I do know is I am living on the edge of my comfort zone, and I am growing - in ways meant for me.

As I think of you this summer, I wonder, in what ways are you growing? What in life wants to live through you right now?

With Love, Yan
