Close It Out!

Personal Experience

Recently I’ve been decluttering the house, and I filled several bags of donations.

But I wanted to wait until I had more before I take them to Goodwill. It would give me a bigger sense of accomplishment.

The pile didn’t grow.

One day I realized the real problem wasn’t the clutter — it was the unfinishedness.

So I loaded the bags into the car, drove them to Goodwill.

When I came home, I felt immediate relief. The space was clear. And I suddenly had fresh energy to start the next round of decluttering.

Leadership Insight

In work and in life, momentum often comes not from starting something new, but from finishing what is already in motion.

Once we have clarity about what matters, focus on fewer things, and courage to begin (Go there!) — leadership eventually calls for another discipline: decisiveness in crossing the finish line.

Closing things out — whether it’s a decision, a conversation, or a project — may be the most powerful next step.

Reflection

What is something at work that is quietly lingering that simply needs a clear ending ?

What would change if you closed it out?

What clarity and energy might open up if you crossed the finish line?

Sometimes the clearest path forward begins by closing what’s already open.
